This authentic Greece 🇬🇷 1844 2 Lepta copper coin was issued during the reign of Otto of Greece, the first King of modern Greece. Struck at the Athens Mint, it forms part of the early coinage of the Kingdom of Greece and is an important piece of 19th-century Greek numismatic history.

The obverse features the crowned royal arms of the Kingdom of Greece, while the reverse displays the denomination “2 ΛΕΠΤΑ” and date within a wreath. These coins were minted in copper and circulated extensively, making surviving examples a tangible link to the formative years of the modern Greek state. The 1844 issue had a reported mintage of approximately 206,000 pieces.

This specimen has been cleaned and shows corrosion, characteristics that reduce its numismatic value but still allow it to remain an affordable historical collectible for collectors of Greek coinage. Despite its condition issues, it remains an attractive representative example of King Otto’s copper coinage and a desirable filler coin for early Greek collections.
