Important Greek historical bronze medal dated 1839, issued for the contributors to the foundation of the University of Athens during the reign of King Otto (Όθων).

The obverse depicts an impressive portrait of King Otto in Greek ceremonial dress, while the reverse shows the University building with the inscription «ΤΟΙΣ ΣΥΝΔΡΟΜΗΤΑΙΣ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟΥ».

Engraved by Konrad Lange, this large 44 mm medal is catalogued as Chase I #448 / Wurzbach #7024. It has been certified by NGC as UNC DETAILS – Reverse Cleaned, certification 6647324-012.

A highly desirable medal from the early years of the modern Greek state and an excellent addition to an advanced collection of King Otto, Greek medals, or 19th-century Greek history. The standard type is approximately 44 mm and around 45 g.
