A historic coin from the early years of the modern Greek state, the 1840 2 Lepta was issued during the reign of King Otto (Othon), the first King of Greece. Struck at the Athens Mint, this copper coin represents an important period in Greek monetary history following the establishment of the Kingdom of Greece.
The obverse features the crowned Greek royal shield bearing the cross of Greece, surrounded by the inscription “ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ” (Kingdom of Greece). The reverse displays the denomination “2 ΛΕΠΤΑ” and the date 1840 within a decorative wreath.
