An important early coinage of the modern Greek state, this 1828 Silver Phoenix (1 Phoinikas) was issued under Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of independent Greece. The Phoenix series symbolizes the rebirth of the Greek nation following the War of Independence and remains one of the most historically significant Greek coin types.
This example has been certified by NGC as XF Details – Holed, indicating strong remaining detail despite the presence of a mounting hole, a common feature for coins of this era that were often worn as talismans or personal keepsakes.
Obverse:
Depicts the Phoenix rising from flames, topped by a cross, with the legend «ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΠΟΛΙΤΕΙΑ» (Hellenic State).
Reverse:
Features the denomination “1 ΦΟΙΝΙΞ” within a laurel wreath, with the date 1828 below.

- Bullion photos are indicative. Small marks or milk spots on bullion coins come from minting and are not defects.
