An exceptional and highly sought-after numismatic rarity from the autonomous Cretan State, this 1900 10 Lepta Medal Alignment variety (KM#4.2) represents one of the most desirable coins of the Prince George era. With only 14 coins graded higher by PCGS and NGC—and none in MS condition—this is considered one of the greatest rarities.

Struck at the Paris Mint (A) in copper-nickel, the coin features the royal crown of Prince George on the obverse and the denomination 10 ΛΕΠΤΑ within a laurel wreath on the reverse. What makes this issue particularly special is its Medal Alignment (↑↑), a scarce variety that differs from the standard Coin Alignment (↑↓) issue. Collectors of Greek and Cretan coinage actively pursue this variety due to its rarity and significantly lower survival rate.

The 1900 Medal Alignment 10 Lepta is recognized as KM#4.2, while the regular Coin Alignment issue is cataloged as KM#4.1. Although both were struck in the same year, the Medal Alignment variety is considerably scarcer and commands substantial premiums in all grades.
