Original Franklin Mint sterling silver medal from the celebrated “The Genius of Michelangelo” series, featuring The Libyan Sibyl, one of Michelangelo’s famous figures from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Produced in 1970, the medal was struck in .925 Sterling Silver, weighs approximately 39 g, and measures approximately 44 mm in diameter. These medals formed part of a Proof silver medal series devoted to the works of Michelangelo.
The reverse reproduces Michelangelo’s Libyan Sibyl from the Sistine Chapel frescoes, while the other side incorporates an elaborate geometric design and portrait detail. The Libyan Sibyl was one of the prophetic figures painted by Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
