Original Franklin Mint sterling silver Proof medal from The Genius of Michelangelo collection, featuring The Cumaean Sibyl, inspired by Michelangelo’s celebrated fresco from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The medal is struck in .925 Sterling Silver and belongs to the extensive 60-medal Michelangelo series issued by Franklin Mint. The Cumaean Sibyl is included among the Sistine Chapel subjects in the original sequence of the collection.
The reverse bears the inscription:
“The Cumaean Sibyl – Ancient prophetess who foretold a virgin and a child redeemer.”
The obverse reproduces Michelangelo’s powerful figure of the Cumaean Sibyl, with the engraver’s signature P. Monassi visible at the right.
This example displays attractive blue-grey, golden and darker natural toning, particularly around the upper fields and rim. Light hairlines and storage marks are visible under magnification.
